California grape grower sued for gender discrimination.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) sued a California grape grower for sex discrimination for denying jobs to women.  Grower Kovacevich 5 Farms, who operates farms in Tulare and Kern counties, is accused of failing to hire not one female worker between 1999 and 2002.  During those years, the company hired 300 seasonal workers all of whom were males.

Lawry’s Restaurants Sued for Sex Bias in Hiring.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) filed a national sex discrimination class action lawsuit against Lawry’s Restaurant.  Back in 1938, Lawry’s instituted a policy of hiring only women as servers.  The policy which predated the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibiting discrimination was never updated.  Read more

Bumper Sticker Termination

A woman is suing her former employer, who she alleges fired her for having an "Air America" bumper sticker.  The complaint alleges that the employer fired her for having the liberal network's sticker on her car, because that meant that she could be part of al-Qaeda.  California law protects the political activities of employees. The North County Times has more.
